How do I grow Rocket (Eruca sativa)?
This fast growing herb goes by a variety of names such as true rocket, roquette, arugula, tira or white pepper. Its spicy flavour is reminiscent of horseradish and derives from the fact that it is a member of the mustard family. It is easily raised from seed that can be sown at any time of year directly into the final growing position about 10 cm apart in a sunny well-drained position. The leaves should be picked individually when they are still young and tender, leaving a few developing leaves on the plant to grow from the central shoot. A handy tip is to sow some fresh seed every month or two to keep a succession of young vigorous plants on the go, as the plants are ready to harvest a month after sowing.
